TYPES OF PORTS

We will discuss some types of ports 
1. SERVICE PORTS: Thisis a type of ports in which the Port Authority provides the entire services of the ports, provide port infrastructures such as access channel,light house,tugboat etc and perform regulations functions. 
The Port Authority who provides port facilities and equipments also provides stevedoring services.

2.TOOL PORTS: The Port Authority are responsible for provision of both infrastructures such as access channels, light house, quay, tug boat etc and superstructures like cranes,port handling equipments, warehouse etc. This types of ports means that the Port is leased out to the private sector. This types of ports can be found in the US,Europe,Japan 

3. LANDLORD PORTS: In this type of port system, the Port Authority provides the infrastructures while superstructures and stevedoring is owned by the private parties.

4. LINER PORTS: It is a type of ports that provides services to passengers travelling. This type of port has reduced due to the high patronage of other means of transportation like air,land, rail 

5. BULK PORTS: It is designed with installation of deep water berths foe loading and dischargeing of bulk cargoes.

MAJOR PORT SUBSYSTEM

We discussed recently about port. Today we shall discuss the major port sub system These subsystem are what works together to make a port carry our its activities effectively and efficiently. MAJOR NAVIGATIONAL PORT SUBSYSTEM We have, Navigational Aid Subsystem:  These are equipments that enables safe arrival and exit of vessels from the port. They are placed along coasts to mark safe and danger zone and enables Mariners in determining their position. It makes Mariners to be aware of dangers both on land and on sea. They include lighthouse,buoys,tug boat etc.                      Quay Handling and Transfer subsystem:  These is one of the major subsystem. It enables the loading and offloading of cargoes from the vessels. Examples include portal cranes,gantry cranes,forklift etc.                                       ...
