BRIDGE
A Bridge
Have you ever wondered how a ship navigates?
How is it being controlled?
What are those equipments used in controlling it?
All these questions will be answered here.

WHAT IS A BRIDGE?
A Bridge is an part in a vessel that enclosed steering, propulsion and other controls for which a ship is being navigated.
It is a room that encloses all navigational equipments and is controlled by an officer

The instruments in a Bridge include the following
  1. BAROMETER:It is used by the officer in a Bridge to

  • To detect atmospheric pressure
  • To detect change of pressure which is either low pressure or high pressure. Low pressure denotes upcoming weather is a threat to the ship's movement thereby hindering it. It includes rain, strong winds which can cause discomfort to the vessel. High pressure denotes there is calm sea, no rain, no strong wind, it denotes the sea is suitable for the vessel to move.
  2. RADAR: It has a screen called Plan Position Indicator that displays all target within radar range.

The above picture is the picture of a Plan Position Indicator

Radar  is used for the following
  • It works with light house, buoys etc in determine the ship's position
  • It ensures safe navigation of the ship.
  • It uses bearing and distance information on its screen to also determine ship's position
  • It is used in tracking other ships on the sea.
  • It is used to detect land obstacles
These equipments are just some of the equipments used in a bridge, if you still want more, you can comment with your email. I will kindly send it directly to you.
